Governor Orders Virginia Gyms Closed until April 23

Governor Ralph Northam yesterday ordered the statewide closure of certain “non-essential” business in an effort to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. Here is an excerpt from his official statement:

This order goes into effect at 11:59 PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 and will remain in place until 11:59 PM on Thursday, April 23, 2020. …

Recreation and Entertainment Businesses
The following recreation and entertainment businesses are considered non-essential and must close to the public beginning at 11:59 PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2020:…

• Fitness centers, gymnasiums, recreation centers, indoor sports facilities, indoor exercise facilities;

Unfortunately, this includes us. While this is sad news, TMDA is committed to doing what’s necessary to safeguard the lives of our members and community.

During the hiatus, please monitor our private Facebook group for instructional videos about things you can do at home. We’ve already posted several FMA drills and some BJJ information.

We will keep you informed as of developments and look forward to (hopefully) seeing you again at the school in late April.
